Alta Vista is a cherished historical San Antonio neighborhood located only a few miles north of downtown. Homes in this neighborhood are older, many predating WWII, and are sought after for both the charm of the area as well as the proximity to many San Antonio hotspots.
Situated in a pocket between I-10, I-35, and Highway 281 between Tobin Hill and Monte Vista, Alta Vista is close to San Antonio College, and only a few minutes from San Pedro Springs Park, the second oldest park in the United States. For those seeking dining and entertainment within a short drive, this neighborhood is a prime location for those who enjoy spots like the San Antonio Botanical Gardens, the San Antonio Zoo, the Witte Museum, the DoSeum, the popular Pearl Brewery area, the Riverwalk, and Brackenridge Golf Course. Additionally, the neighborhood’s location near Fort Sam Houston, Trinity University, the University of the Incarnate Word, and businesses who call downtown San Antonio home, this neighborhood appeals to everyone from students to retirees.
Running between $145k and $250k, the properties in Alta Vista run the gamut in architectural style from Victorian to bungalow. Though the neighborhood began as a single-family residential neighborhood in the early 1900’s, today it is comprised of single-family homes and apartments. Because of the historical aspect of the neighborhood, many of these apartments are not modern complexes, but renovated larger houses in the area that were converted to multiple units. Keeping the charm of the original homes of the neighborhood, these “apartments” are extremely unique.
Students who live in Alta Vista are zoned for the San Antonio Independent School District, and will likely attend Cotton Elementary, Mark Twain Middle, and Edison High schools.
